This week is “Thinking of You” week which is a national holiday where people are encouraged to write snail mail to their loved ones. How perfect is it that it would coincide with my little letter-writing project for my memory book?
I sent off the first batch of letters this week. At first, I thought I would play it safe and only write to my closest friends that I was still in good standing with. But as soon as I finished the first few I knew I was ready to make the plunge and just dive right in. There is something about the medium of writing a snail mail letter. You think a little more about what you are writing compared to a text message. And also something about imagining your friends getting a surprise at the mailbox. You never know where or when they will receive or read the letters either. Some might read in the morning before work or while eating a bowl of cereal while others might get it after work when they are exhausted and happy for the distraction.
What I didn't expect was how therapeutic the letter-writing process is for me. Just writing out the things I wanted to get out has been amazing so far. And that feeling is addicting. I wrote a new bundle to be sent out tomorrow. Hopefully some will write back next week while we are at Disney World and I can come home to a big bundle of letters and memories when we get back!
